Covid-19 Safety Information

Employee safety is important to SPC, and we are taking steps to ensure our employees’ safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks may be required to be worn when county community risk levels are elevated, and barriers are in place in the Visitor Centers stores. SPC has also implemented employee COVID-specific safety training and additional cleaning of workspaces. SPC has masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer readily available to all employees at all times.

General Information

Sequoia Parks Conservancy employees interact with park visitors throughout the year in retail and outdoor settings. Our team prides itself on treating customers and each other in a manner that’s honest, accurate, and friendly.

We provide staffing for the visitor centers at Kings Canyon, Lodgepole, Giant Forest, Foothills, and Lake Kaweah. We also hire seasonal Field Institute naturalists for tours of Crystal Cave, Giant Forest, and other areas of the park.

Travel times vary depending on park locations, traffic, and conditions:
Central Fresno to Kings Canyon NP: 60 miles
Central Visalia to Sequoia NP Foothills: 38 miles
Central Visalia to Giant Forest: 51 miles
Central Visalia to Lodgepole: 56 miles

COVID-19 Update: While no longer a requirement of employment, Sequoia Parks Conservancy STRONGLY recommends that all employees be vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus. Sequoia Parks Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the natural beauty of Sequoia National Park. We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Field Institute Manager to oversee our programs, manage staff, and ensure exceptional visitor experiences within the parks.

Starting Salary: $1280.00 per week Salary Range Potential: $66560 -$124235 per year

Job Type: Year-round Full-time / Overtime Exempt

Primary Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Manage daily operations on-site at the Crystal Cave (May-Nov) and remotely for Pear Lake Winter Hut (Dec-Apr)
  • Develop and deliver high-quality interpretive programs on diverse topics related to the natural and cultural history of the parks and surrounding areas.
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff, including naturalists, guides, and hut keepers.
  • Schedule staff and programs, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various park partners.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to park visitors, answering questions and addressing their needs.

Qualifications:

  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills to effectively engage diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, conducting tours, or resource interpretation.
  • Proficiency in tools and software to support staff scheduling, inventory, reservations, and using various software programs (Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively, and thrive in a physically demanding environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background and DMV check.
  • Commitment to safety and a willingness to comply with all park regulations and safety protocols.
  • First aid, CPR, and AED certifications are required.

Location:
Ash Mountain or Lodgepole in Sequoia National Park. Peak Season park housing may be available, but may not be available year-round.

Seasonal Positions

Sequoia Parks Conservancy (SPC) is seeking two reliable, professional, and conscientious people to join our team as seasonal Warehouse Associates.  In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with product receiving and shipping, assembling orders for each park store, tracking inventory stock levels, and transporting stock to and from the warehouse and to park stores, all within the Conservancy guidelines and procedures.

This position is physically demanding. Employees need to be able to stand on their feet for up to eight hours per day, be able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 60 pounds, and load, move, and unload a fully loaded hand truck 250 yards. This position is subjected to repetitive motion, bending, and squatting.

To be successful in this role, you must work well with your coworkers, the public, and agency partners.

Housing Availability: No in-park housing is available for this position

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Excellent basic math and counting skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Legible writing and positive communication skills.

Preferred but not Mandatory Skills:

  • Valid Forklift Operators License

  • Some knowledge of point-of-sales inventory systems.

  • Some computer and office/clerical skills.

Starting Salary: $16.00 per hour

Sequoia Parks Conservancy (SPC) is seeking a reliable, professional, and conscientious person to join our team as a Park Store Associate in the Visitor Centers. In this role, you will be responsible for selling Conservancy merchandise, providing park visitors with information, and maintaining the retail area of the Park Visitor Centers, all within the Conservancy guidelines and procedures.

You must be available to work any day, including weekends and holidays, and may be required to be on your feet for up to eight hours daily. This position works primarily indoors.

To be successful in this role, you must work well with your coworkers, the public, and agency partners.

Should be available to work from May 2024 through November 2024, although some positions may start or end earlier. Suitable applicants with longer availability will be given priority.

Housing Availability: In-park housing is available for positions in the Giant Forest or Lodgepole Visitor Centers only. No in-park housing is available for positions in Foothills or Kings Canyon Visitor Centers.

Minimum Requirements: Prior retail experience and cash-handling experience.

Starting Salary: $16.00 per hour
